Last weekend we celebrated the Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, the only birthday besides Jesus' that is celebrated as a solemnity in the Catholic church. Fr. Newton's homily reminded us that John's greatness was not in power, wealth or appearance, but in his innate dignity and his courage to do what God required of him. Like St. John the Baptist, we are know, named and given a mission by God, to point others to Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
