Last weekend we celebrated the Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time. At the end of St. John's Bread of Life discourses, we see many of the disciples leaving Jesus to return to their former ways of life, because they did not understand and could not accept His teaching about the Holy Eucharist. In his homily, Deacon Fred reminds us that, although St. Peter speaks up and says, "[T]o whom shall we go...you have the words of eternal life," his faith is also tested and when he loses his focus on Jesus, he sinks amid the waves. We too must focus our attention on Jesus Himself; we all doubt at times, but must not despair, because the Lord is always there to guide and protect us.
