Readings and Homilies for the Weekend of August 18-19, 2018 (English and Español)

7hir5v6yvmaysotjobi97c9lz0l.jpgLast weekend we celebrated the Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time, in which Jesus further deepens His Bread of Life discourses. When the Jews ask how He can give them his flesh to eat, he intensifies the teaching and insists: "[U]nless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you" (John 6:53).

In Fr. Newton's homily, he reminds us that the Eucharist enables true communion with God, because it is a spiritual food that gradually transforms us to be more and more like Christ. Fr. Mark's homily reinforces that the Church has always taught Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist even from the earliest day. Do we doubt His other miracles? His resurrection? If not, then why to we doubt this one?

Fr. Mark also took time to address the emerging abuse scandal in the Church in Pennsylvania. For these comments, listen to the second half of the homily below.
