Readings and Homilies for September 7-8, 2019 (English only; no Spanish Mass due to Fall Festival)

On the weekend of September 14-15, 2019, we celebrated the 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time. In the Gospel, Jesus reveals God's great mercy toward sinners, sharing the parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and finally, the prodigal son (or the forgiving father). Fr. Mark's homily reminds us that, like the older brother in the prodigal son's story, we sometime keep track of the wrongs others do and judge them harshly, instead of wanting and willing their salvation. In Fr. Rick's homily, he outlines a number of human emotions, including anger and shame, that keep people from approaching God and His mercy. We must neither presume God's mercy toward us nor that we cannot be forgiven...and we must forgive others as we would like to be forgiven.
