On the weekend of September 7-8, 2019, we celebrated the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time. In the gospel, Jesus provides His followers with stark instructions for discipleship, calling us to be completely detached from family, friends and possessions and belonging entirely to God. He even says we must pick up our cross and follow Him, implying that discipleship involves sacrifice and even suffering. Fr. Mark's homily urges us not to be possessed by our possessions, but to attach ourselves to Jesus in all we do. In Fr. Rick's homily, we are reminded that Jesus calls us to whole-hearted discipleship as the only way to live a full and complete life.
