On the weekend of October 12-13, 2019, the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time, we heard the gospel account of Jesus healing the 10 lepers...only one of whom returns to thank Him for this miracle. Our teaching parish seminarian, Deacon Tom Skaja, delivered all the homilies on this particular weekend. He focused his reflection on how lepers seek healing, not relying on their own strength or ability, and not giving up entirely, but crying out in humility, "Jesus, have pity on us." They recognize that they cannot heal themselves, and neither can we! When we suffer from spiritual leprosy—the sins the disfigure our hearts—the Church's advice is the same as Jesus': "go show yourselves to the priest." In the sacrament of Confession, we find truly divine mercy for the forgiveness of sins and spiritual healing.
