On the weekend of November 16-17, 2019, the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time, Jesus describes to His disciples the end times and tells them they will be hated because of His name. These words make no sense if Jesus were just a really nice guy and wise teacher: Why would His name inspire hatred? But as Dcn. Tom Skaja reminds us in his homilies, Jesus is Lord, and if he reigns in our lives, our lives have to change. His love and influence should affect every aspect of our lives, and that prospect is frightening and even painful to people. Are we prepared to endure in the face of fear, pain, hatred and persecution?
