Readings and Homilies for May 11-12, 2019 (English and Español)

On the weekend of May 11-12, 2019, we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Easter with the gospel account of the Good Shepherd. Fr. Newton's homily speaks to the deeper meaning of the title "shepherd" to the people of Israel in Jesus' time and to the people of Christ today. Shepherds lead, feed, nurture, comfort and protect their flock, living self-sacrificially to provide for their sheep. The gospel paints a vivid picture of how a true shepherd acts: He knows his sheep personally, by name, and they know him; he gives his life for them and no one can can take them from him.

Fr. Newton reminds us that the title pastor means shepherd, and since Sunday was World Day of Prayer for Vocations, he invites us to pray for an abundance of priests, deacons and religious for the Catholic Church.
