Readings and Homilies for August 17-18, 2019 (English and Español)

On the weekend of August 17-18, 2019, we celebrated the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time. All three readings speak of the division, persecution and suffering that come from following the will of God and sharing His word and mission...yet that is what we are called to do. Fr. Rick's homily draws our attention to what that persecution and suffering looks like, for Jeremiah, for Jesus and for us, but underscores that suffering is not the end of the story. In his homily, Fr. Mark reminds us that Jesus desires unity, but the world is opposed to His message. When we choose to follow Jesus in spite of the conflict it causes, even with friends and family, our efforts will bear spiritual fruit that lasts.
