The Beauty of Our Church: The Monstrance

I spent an hour in the adoration chapel this week. The center of attention is the monstrance that sits on the small altar. I sat staring at the beauty of the monstrance tenderly holding and displaying Jesus for me to adore. The monstrance is all gold and silver. It stands about 18 inches high with the consecrated host of Jesus contained in the center and viewed through a round glass window. There are very intricate silver shafts of wheat surrounding the host and a beautiful cross at the top. The monstrance is held up by two angels who also come to adore Him. Gold rays spread outward like the rays of light spreading from the sun (or in this case, from the Son). “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12).

The beauty is astounding! But yet the beauty of what is inside is the sole purpose of the monstrance, guiding our attention to Him. We at Saint Andrew Catholic Church are blessed to have such a beautiful vessel to help us adore Christ. If you have never been in the chapel, stop in for a minute to adore the beautiful craftsmanship of the monstrance and to say hello to Jesus who is there waiting to say hello to you. He wants to share His love with you. You can literally be in Jesus’ presence, just inches away from His body, soul and divinity right there in the monstrance. I invite you stop by for a visit. – Yvonne Paffel
