Last weekend we celebrated the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity, which honors the one of the fundamental teachings and mysteries of our faith. In his homily, Fr. Newton explained the basics of the Trinity:

  • God is three persons, but only one god
  • All three persons share a single divine nature
  • All three persons are coequal and coeternal

Father went on to explain that this is "not a puzzle to be solved, but a mystery to be lived."

"Ours is a God whose very essence is love...an interrelating mystery of love," he said.

The guest priest, our own Fr. Matthew Crane, explained that while God's existence and may of His characteristics can be discovered by the use of reason, we can only know that God is three persons because He told us.

"It's a secret whispered between lovers," he said, advising parishioners to ask for the grace to be comfortable falling—and acting—in love with the Trinity.
