Last weekend we heard the readings for the Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time, in which Jesus challenges the Jewish understanding of divorce, saying that Moses allowed it only because of the hardness of their hearts. By contrast, Jesus teaches that marriage is a bond impossible to break. In his homily, Fr. Mark discussed how we, too, suffer from hard hearts and struggle with Jesus' teaching on marriage and divorce. He explained that only in Matthew's gospel does Jesus mention an exception to the Lord's teaching against divorce, which led to the Church's "annulment process" to determine whether an actual, sacramental marriage ever took place.

Father urged young people and all people to invite Jesus into their relationships from the beginning—with everyone, but especially when dating, engaged or married.
