Readings and Homilies for March 9-10, 2019 (English and Español)

hl47gcikzbrvjccibl7pkbkx29l.jpgOn the weekend of March 9-10, 2019, we heard the readings for the First Sunday of Lent, in which Jesus goes into the the desert to fast and pray for 40 days and is tempted by Satan. In Fr. Mark's homily, he draws our attention to the fact that the devil tempts Jesus when He appears weak: alone and fasting. When we let our guard down, the Enemy moves in, and we give ourselves to things that are hurtful to us. But in the teachings of Jesus, we find the "Armor of God" (Ephesians 6:10-17). Fr. Mark also gives a specific idea on how to invite Jesus in to our interactions and challenges every day. Check it out below!

Fr. Newton's homily begins with the central theme of all three readings together: salvation by calling on the name of the Lord. Jesus, he says, had to struggle against the tempter to discover the best way to do God's will. Fr. Newton reminds us that the devil rarely confronts us with a temptation to obvious evil, but that we must strengthen our minds and hearts against false or lesser goods that lead us away from the greatest good, communion with God.
