Readings and Homilies for January 12-13, 2019 (English and Español)

8jfc9kkpx9mje9nxmg3sb206cml.jpgOn the weekend of January 12-13, we celebrated the Baptism of Jesus, which marks the end of the Christmas season. In Fr. Mark's homily, he reminds us that people baptized others before Jesus, but that the Baptism of Jesus makes the waters of Baptism holy. God is present in the sacrament; in the gospel, the entire Trinity is on hand, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Fr. Mark also reminds us of the commitments we make on behalf of our children and godchildren at baptism, and that God has a special plan for each of us that is beyond our imaginations...plans of great peace and joy.

Fr. Newton, too, emphasizes the presence of God in the gospel: the heavens opening, and God once more manifesting Himself to the people. Through Baptism and the other sacraments, we receive God's grace—His very life, as a gift. This is especially true of the Eucharist, which is the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Himself.
