Readings and Homilies for December 15-16, 2018 (English and Español)
Last weekend was the Second Sunday of Advent, in which John the Baptist is "the voice of one crying out in the desert: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.'" Both Fr. Mark and hometown/guest priest Fr. Matthew Crane remind us in their homilies that St. John the Baptist is calling us to prepare, as well. Fr. Matthew says we are reminded that God is coming—take action; get moving!—but can struggle to know what to do. He suggests we start by recognizing what God is already doing in our lives (bringing us to Mass and the sacraments, with these people, in this place) and build from there. Fr. Mark reminds us that at this time of year, many people who might consider themselves Catholic but not practice their faith could use an invitation, from us, back to the parish, to Confession and the Mass, to relationship with God and His Church.
