This past weekend we celebrated the second Sunday in Advent, when we are called to make straight the pathways of the Lord. Fr. Mark's homily asks us what we put ahead of God and why. He encourages us to use this time of preparation to strive to put God first and foremost in our lives and in the priorities of our family. In Fr. Newton's homily, he speaks of Advent as St. John the Baptist's wilderness, in which we are challenged to repentance and conversion of heart. "One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit" (Mark 1:7-8).
