This past weekend we celebrated the first Sunday in Advent, the beginning of the Church's new year and a season of joyful preparation for the Lord's coming. In Fr. Newton's homily, he spoke of Advent as a season of "active, expectant waiting." We are not just lounging around, hoping Jesus shows up sooner or later; we look for Him with eagerness, we listen and reflect, we advance toward him and call out to Him, "Come Lord!" In Fr. Mark's homily, he encourages us to see Advent as a time of intimate conversation with the Lord: we sit with Him in loving relationship; bring our hopes, concerns and needs to Him in prayer; seek shelter from the world in Him even as we wait for His return.
