Readings and Homilies for Dec. 16-17, 2017 (English and Español)

80lbfhwhymwfw5s8gp16eqp24ol.jpgThis past weekend we celebrated the third Sunday in Advent, or Gaudete Sunday, when we light the rose-colored candle on our Advent wreaths and are called to rejoice in the Lord's past and future coming. In Fr. Newton's homily, he reminds us that it's easy to rejoice when life is meeting our expectations, but when life is difficult, we need supernatural joy, which is a fruit of life in the Holy Spirit. Only then can we live our the words of St. Paul: "Rejoice always!" Fr. Mark's homily advises that we heed the words of St. John the Baptist, taken from Isaiah, "Make straight the way of the Lord." We do so by clearing away the spiritual clutter and underbrush—seeking forgiveness of sins through Confession, letting go of attachments and removing obstacles, that we may follow the straight path to heaven and rejoice for eternity someday!
