Parishioner Review: Divine Mercy on FORMED.org

Editor's Note: This review was written and submitted on the heels of the last blizzard. What a difference a week makes!

As you are not so patiently waiting for spring to arrive, chill out for an evening on the couch with your family, some popcorn, and FORMED.org, our new online subscription.  One of my favorite movies is also one that is highly recommended by our parish, Divine Mercy in the Second Greatest Story Ever Told.  What initially drew me to this story was the beautiful prayer and message; however, there was also great appeal to the history buff in me.

Divine Mercy in the Second Greatest Story Ever Told transcends beyond the Bible. Just as God built a covenant with the people of Israel, He continues to call on us to trust in Him, accepting His will for us in faith, grace, mercy, and forgiveness.  Pope St. John Paul II’s life was greatly influenced by the Divine Mercy, and he has made it his mission to proclaim this message to the whole world!

The story is lifted from the pages of St. Faustina’s diary as she describes her apparitions of Jesus Christ.  We are taken on a journey through history, prophecy, miracles, war, peace, and conversion; surrounded by the profound effect that this and Mary’s intercessions of Fatima had in the hearts of many who later became 20th-century saints. The events revealed are akin to an adventure novel where one cannot wait to turn the page as the warriors of faith, though separated by place and time, rise up to accept God's call during tumultuous periods in church history: Jansenism, the Protestant Revolution, and through the people of Poland during WWII who emerge steadfastly in their fidelity to the Catholic faith against Nazism and Communism.  What might seem like random acts of faith and miracles are actually God’s constant stream of mercy at work in the world, and His call to us to trust in Him. – Linda Braun
